I only have to watch it twice to make the purchase come out even with the rental.īy the same token that you can buy movies on sale for $4.99, you could just as easily peruse the $.99 rental sales across the various services as well. Right now for instance Pig is $14 to buy at full price or $7 to rent.

A new release rental is $6-7 and new release movies often go on sale for $10 just a month or two after release. With the number of sales Apple does, it often doesn’t make any sense to rent. The endless selection of the various services is great for browsing but it’s not very good for intentional viewing. I have all the services but trying to figure out which movie is on which service at any given time is a pain. I like having the movies I want at my fingertips whenever I want to watch them and knowing where they are. If I want to recommend a movie to the people I love it’s much easier if they can just look in my library and watch it. Members of my family plan group are able to access my library of purchases but not my rentals. I personally don't really understand buying a movie in the digital age unless it's something you really intend to watch endlessly.
